Celos del aire matan
is a cycle of 5 short pieces based on texts by the composer herself, Juana Inés de la Cruz, Calderón de la Barca (from whose work the title is derived), María de Zayas, Safo, and street slogans. Each piece creates its own sonic world, driven by the expressiveness of the text.
These are independent pieces, each with its own distinct structure. Each one grows and links into the next, becoming a distorted echo of the previous one, until it condenses and is reduced to a single gesture.
Underlying each part is a gender-based perspective; at times questioning, at others defiant and defensive, towards the revelation of feeling, the adventure of emotion, or the lament of a betrayal of affection.
They are declarations of expression, reflections of presence in the daily of loving and existing before the other. In this case, one of the parts of this cycle is presented, itself comprising five movements, forming an entity in its own right.
