This composition is a compilation of sound materials that follows a standard dictated by the guitar’s characteristics and taps into strictly electronic elements. Their origin, degree of elaboration, ductility and mixture, etc., are analysed by studying the potential offered by the resources selected.
This means exploring each of the key features of the sounds chosen, i.e., seriously addressing their acoustic qualities: pitch, intensity, timbre and duration. Xuxurla delves into the secrets of an extremely rich instrument with a timbric complexity - the guitar - in counterpoint to electronic sounds. New nuances and contrasts that infuse the discourse with a wealth and expressiveness are thus suggested and developed.
Xuxurla was originally created by a multidisciplinary group that included dance, thus establishing a link between different instrumental gestures and the movement on the stage. The overlapping of these two elements suggests constant change and is facilitated by the use of electronic procedures. This technique allows both the flexibilisation of the discourse on stage and the amalgamation of the different sections of the work.
Xuxurla premiered at the 2004 Musikaste Festival (Renteria, Basque Country) at the hand of guitarist Eugene Tobalina, along with dancer and choreographer Michelle Man.
